We spent the weekend in the Rheingau area and slept at the castle you can see in the distance for Thorsten's birthday. Beautiful scenery, great hotel, gorgeous sunshine AND a fun time with my family. A truly relaxing weekend...

22.01.11. - Coffee Shop in Amsterdam
Walking through the streets of Amsterdam, you can smell marijuana wafting out of the coffee shops. Coffee shops are places where you can buy from a wide selection of marijuana... interesting cultural phenomenon, for sure.

19.01.11 - Sunset on the North Sea in Zandvoort, Holland
On the way back from Amsterdam, we spent some time playing on the beach in Zandvoort, Holland. Watching the sun go down over the North Sea was a great way to end a great weekend.

16.01.11 - Amsterdam in Black and White
We just got back from a whirlwind trip to Amsterdam... I never could have imagine how beautiful it was! The city has a great feel and there is so much more I wish we had time to discover there. Put that on my list of places to return to.

The first snowdrops
Out for a walk today in town... I was stunned to see the first snowdrops. It did my heart good to know that spring will indeed come again!

Lens-E is on the way from Germany to Michigan!
05.01.12 - Lens-E! This is the little ragdoll project that Leif and I had a chance to be a part of to help raise money for Childhood Cancer research at St. Jude's Hospital. One thing I didn't mention is that she has an autograph book and, when she was in Oklahoma, she got an autograph from Ben Affleck! Cool!!
05.01.12 - Prince Leif presenting Lens-E with her Princess Hat
Leif and I had a visitor from the States today... a cute little ragdoll named Lens-E who is travelling the world to raise money for childhood cancer by supporting St. Jude's Children's hospital. The idea is that every person who recieves her adds something to her, stamps her passport to show where she has been and then posts some pictures of her visit on her very own Facebook page. At the end of her trip, she will be auctioned off. Leif and I added a smile to her face (literally, not figuratively... we sewed it on!) and also gave her a cute little Princess Hat so she could remember her trip to the Castle at Kronberg in Germany. We chose the "dress up" hat since we talked about the fact that kids who are sick with cancer spend so much of their time and energy on their illness and treatment that they miss out on some of the fun things that kids do like playing dress up. It was a great experience for both Leif and me and we were very happy to be a part of it.

02.01.11 - Snowstorm in Weilburg
On a walk by the river Lahn in Weilburg, we were surprised by a sudden snow squall. Another town just an hour away that held lots of delightful scenes... a great day!
